Abstract

In this paper, the issue of adjusting pump activities to fluctuating energy availability in the context of hinterland drainage systems is addressed. Through mathematical modeling and optimization techniques, the potential for flexibility within regular pumping operations is evaluated. In addition to the intuitive approach which considers only the tides of the adjacent water body for the purpose of enhancing energy efficiency, electricity price patterns are also taken into consideration to promote grid-friendly be-havior and reduce CO2 emissions.
